Johan Laurentz Jensen Opstilling med blomster

Johan Laurentz Jensen was the leading flower painter of the golden age of Danish art. He portrayed the contemporary perception of nature and cultural ideals in complex still lifes. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Øregaard Museum can now add his 1838 painting Colourful bouquet of flowers in a Greek vase on a stone ledge with shells to its collection.

Anette Harboe Flensburg Light an Infinite I

Anette Harboe Flensburg and Eske Kath are prominent artists in the contemporary Danish art scene. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation the Trapholt Museum of Modern Art and Design is now adding principal works by the two Danish visual artists to its permanent collection of paintings.

Sophia Kalkau Solen er Hvid og Blow an Egg

Since late March, Sophia Kalkau has occupied the entire underground floor of Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg with the grandiose special exhibition ‘The Material and the Egg’. With a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the art museum in Aalborg has now been able to buy two of the principal works from the exhibition for its collection.

Sonja Ferlov Mancoba returns to Paris

Sonja Ferlov Mancoba Pompidou

Until 23 September, one of France’s biggest museums of modern art presents a large retrospective exhibition about the Danish artist Sonja Ferlov Mancoba. In addition to funding the exhibition catalogue, the New Carlsberg Foundation recently donated one of Ferlov Mancoba’s principal works to the Parisian museum.

The overlooked gains eternal life in Esbjerg

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Esbjerg Art Museum has acquired a five-part ensemble by the sculptor Tina Maria Nielsen. Together, the five elements incorporate a range of ideas and themes that have occupied a principal role in Nielsen’s extensive conceptual practice.

Golden Age gem for SMK

Martinus Rørbye en

Parti af torvet i Amalfi (View of the square in Amalfi) is a quintessential Danish Golden Age architecture painting. It affirms Rørbye’s position during the period as a great analytical talent and an artist with a bold choice of images. With support form the New Carlsberg Foundation SMK, the national gallery of Denmark, now adds the important Rørbye painting to its Danish Golden Age collection.

Marilyn Monroe in French

Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. Cinema

The French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster draws on film history, gender theory and pop culture in her aesthetic video installation Cinema (QM.15) from 2016. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation ARoS has now acquired the work. It is included in ‘Far From Home’, a presentation of the museum’s own collection that opens on 30 November.

Rousseau masterpiece for the Glyptotek

Théodore Rousseau. Le chêne de roche (Klippeegen), 1860

At Christie’s Auctions in New York, the Glyptotek recently acquired Le chêne de roche, painted in 1860 by the French artist Théodore Rousseau. A donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the painting is an important addition to the representation of Rousseau’s work in Glyptotek’s French collection.
