In 1900, Carl Jacobsen saw a large exhibition of Auguste Rodin’s sculptures in Paris. He was excited about Rodin’s work, and before the year was over, he had commissioned seven sculptures. Between 1900 and 1913, Carl Jacobsen and Rodin engaged in a lively correspondence.
After Carl Jacobsen’s death, the Glyptotek continued to buy works by Rodin, and today, the museum owns one of the finest Rodin collections in the world. The correspondence between Rodin and Carl Jacobsen went missing for many years, but turned up in December 2015. Now, for the first time, all the letters are published collectively.
