To this end, support is provided for research trips relevant to the field of art, including participation in conferences and seminars abroad. Danish art academies’ joint study trips for academy students are also supported.
Who can apply?
- Scholars working with art research can apply for support for research trips and participation in conferences abroad.
- The Danish art academies can apply for support for joint study trips for students working with visual arts. Such applications must be submitted and administered by the academy’s administration.
What can be applied for?
- Travel and accommodation expenses
- Registration fees for conferences (if applicable).
No support is provided for:
- Artists’ research activities
- Students’ individual travel and studies abroad
- Trips already undertaken.
Applications for funding for trips that commence during the processing period – i.e. after the application deadline but before a response has been received – may potentially be approved.

There are two deadlines in 2026:
9 March and 7 September

Application process
- Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online system.
- The Board reviews applications and may grant full or partial support – or reject the application.
- Responses are provided through the online system.
Criteria
The New Carlsberg Foundation puts emphasis on the following aspects:
- The research or study trip must be relevant to the applicant's work or field of study.
- The applicant must contribute a paper, presentation or lecture if applying for funding for conference participation.
The application must contain:
Applications that do not meet the requirements below will not be considered.
- One PDF file of max. 6 pages
All application material must be compiled and attached as a single PDF file of no more than 6 pages.
The (max.) 6 pages must include:
- A brief project description explaining the relevance of the trip in relation to the applicant’s research, work, or field of study – max. 2 pages.
- Applicant’s CV – max. 1 page. For applications regarding joint study trips for art academies, this may be omitted.
- Budget and financing plan, including information on co-financing and any applied-for or granted foundation support.
The (max.) 6 pages may also include:
- Any agreement for a conference contribution or other type of invitation.
