The New Carlsberg Foundation supports art museums’ efforts to add art works to their collections, partly by supporting the acquisition of works of art and partly by transferring works from the Ny Carlsberg Foundation’s own holdings.
Art acquisitions
Danish art museums can apply for support for the acquisition of artworks, and museums outside of Denmark can apply for support for the acquisition of works by Danish artists.
The application must contain:
- A statement describing how the acquisition would contribute to the museum’s collection and how it is aligned with the museum’s acquisition policy, extending to a maximum of two standard pages (2,400 characters with spaces).
- Information on the work of art (artist, title, year, materials, dimensions)
- Photo of the work(s).
- Quote from seller (gallery, artist or others)
- If the work is acquired from a private individual, an independent, unbiased professional evaluation of the work must be attached (this does not apply if the work is purchased directly from the artist, unless the price is higher than DKK 500,000).
- When acquiring works by living artists, the application must include a CV for the artist in question, extending to a maximum of one standard page.
- A financing plan, including information on any co-financing or other funding already applied for/granted (if applicable).
Donations of art works from the New Carlsberg Foundation's holdings
The New Carlsberg Foundation regularly acquires works by Danish and foreign artists. Museums in Denmark and abroad can apply to receive works from the foundation’s holdings as a donation. You can search the foundation’s art database here https://www.ny-carlsbergfondet.dk/da/soeg-i-kunsten. Include the word ‘disponibelt’ (Danish for ‘available’) in the search field to see only the works that are available, meaning that you can apply to receive them as a donation.
The application must contain:
- A statement describing how the work would contribute to the museum’s collection and how it is aligned with the museum’s acquisition policy, extending to a maximum of two standard pages (2,400 characters with spaces).
- Information on the work of art (artist, title, year, materials, dimensions)
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
