Selected grants

With a grant from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Royal Danish Library now adds 14 selected works by the artist Trine Søndergaard to its collection. The works will be included in a permanent exhibition of photographs from the collection of the National Museum of Photography that opens in 2020.

The Guggenheim Museum in New York has received support from the New Carlsberg Foundation to purchase an iconic work by the Danish-Vietnamese artist Danh Vo. The work is part of the artist’s sculptural project We the People (detail).

Youth, talent, ambition – and sudden death. The sort of tragic fate that lends itself so easily to mythologizing. In this mythology, the painter Johan Thomas Lundbye (1818–1848) is the rock star of the Danish Golden Age. Now, for the first time, his journals are published in a single volume, in the book Seks år af et liv (Six years in a life).

With a grant from the New Carlsberg Foundation, artist Rose Eken has created big new outdoor works for the RAGNAROCK museum. The site-specific works comprise a colourful decoration of the walls in the museum’s outdoor yard – the patio – and groups of bronze sculptures.

The Kunsten art museum in Aalborg has acquired a work of art that does not exist as a physical object. Instead it is a so-called ‘constructed situation’ by the German artist, Tino Sehgal, whose works have made a great impact on audiences throughout the world.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the J.F. Willumsen Museum adds a bloody painting by J. F. Willumsen to its collection.

Kristian Zahrtmann has a principal position in the collection strategy of Fuglsang Kunstmuseum (Fuglsang Art Museum). A donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation now enables the museum to add the small painting Leonora Christina i Maribo Kloster (Leonora Christina at Maribo Abbey) (1914) from the artist’s late period to its collection.

It is rare for Tal R to express himself in a monumental format, but in his new series Habakuk (Habakkuk), he does just that. One of the paintings in the suite now goes to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art north of Copenhagen.

The world-renowned artist Jean-Marc Bustamante’s enigmatic photographs leave room for the imagination and storytelling but never lend themselves to simplistic interpretations. Now his large piece Amazone T.C.B 1.02 is added to the collection at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

For nine years, the Danish art photographer Peter Funch has visited the same spot on one of the main streets of New York, documenting the passers-by. The New Carlsberg Foundation now secures a selection of the photo series 42nd and Vanderbilt for the V&A, the Victoria and Albert Museum, in London.

A donation of several million kroner from the private foundations Aage og Johanne Louis-Hansens Fond, Augustinus Fonden and the New Carlsberg Foundation secures an early masterpiece by the famous Dutch baroque painter Pieter Claesz for The Nivaagaard Collection at an international art auction.

Suspended from the tall ceiling in Aalborg University’s main building, Create, are 296 pieces of glass. The internationally acclaimed artist Spencer Finch has created a spectacular and poetic work of art that connects the new building’s interior with the surrounding nature, not least the Limfjorden strait. The work, which is unveiled on Monday 28 May, was donated by the New Carlsberg Foundation.

It is an extraordinary work of art that welcomes students, employees and visitors to University College Copenhagen at Campus Carlsberg: a giant owl made in bent neon tube, with a wingspan of more than eight metres.

The National Museum of Denmark is launching a major vision and branding process aimed at highlighting the museum’s core stories, raising its public profile and laying the foundation for the future development of the museum’s activities.

With a new donation of a very special life study from C. W. Eckersberg’s renowned school of painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1833, the New Carlsberg Foundation has secured an important piece for the Golden Age collection at the Glyptotek.

With a substantial million-euro donation, the New Carlsberg Foundation and the Augustinus Fonden have secured the outstanding painting Nymph and Faun by the French artist Henri Matisse for the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK). A piece that the SMK has been seeking to acquire for more than 20 years.
