Golden Age drawings for the Royal Collection of Graphic Art

Nudes, Søren Kierkegaard and landscape studies are among the unique drawings from the Golden Age of Danish art that SMK, the National Gallery of Denmark, recently added to the Royal Collection of Graphic Art thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Ditte Ejlerskov og EvaMarie Lindahl About: The Blank Pages, 2014-20

With the installation About: The Blank Pages Ditte Ejlerskov and EvaMarie Lindahl call out the popular publishing house Taschen’s underrepresentation of women in art. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Arken Museum of Modern Art can now add this work of art to its collection.

Decolonial video installation

Jeannette Ehlers Black is a Beautiful Word I & I, 2019

The Royal Danish Library has purchased the video installation Black is a Beautiful Word. I & I by the artist Jeannette Ehlers. The installation is a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation and will be part of the permanent collection at Den Nationale Fotosamling (The National Photography Collection) as a current commentary on historical portrait photography.

Rørbye’s mysterious cave

Martinus Rørbye. Parti fra en klippehule, Cervara, 1835

In 1835, in a rocky cave outside Rome, Martinus Rørbye observes how sunbeams fall through the mouth of the cave and strike the rough surface of the rock. He captures the scene in the painting Scene from a rocky cave, Cervara, which Ribe Art Museum recently purchased with support from the Augustinus Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Artistic testimony from Greenland

An outstanding collection of more than 600 works by the Danish-Greenlandic artist Anne-Birthe Hove has been secured for the future National Gallery of Art in Greenland, thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Intimate, raw and beautiful

Jesper Just. Circuit (Interpassivities), 2018.

Distinctive and sophisticated installation by Jesper Just has now been added to the collection of Danish and international contemporary art at SMK – National Gallery of Denmark. In Circuit (Interpassivities) Just brings a variety of materialities into play: solid concrete blocks are contrasted by a video showing close-ups of ballet dancers. Warm, soft skin meets electric cords and grey rectangular wall to the sound of August Rosenbaum’s piano improvisations. The acquisition was made possible by a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

The British-Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara creates thought-provoking and complex total installations that examine our current focus on identity, honesty and self-representation. On of the artist’s principal works is now being added to ARKEN’s collection, based on a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Large donation enhances SMK’s collection and supports Danish contemporary art

The New Carlsberg Foundation is donating a significant amount to enable the purchase of more than 100 new pieces to the collection at SMK – the National Gallery of Denmark. With this donation, SMK aims to increase the focus on Danish contemporary art and engage in an ambitious effort to buy works by Danish artists and artists who are active in Denmark. The donation thus also provides economic assistance to the Danish art scene, which is hard hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Jake and Dinos Chapman on Goya

Jake & Dinos Chapman Grande hazaña! Con muertos!, 2019

The artist brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman not only address one of the most impactful portrayals of violence in art history, they intervene directly in it. They have given the iconic painter Goya a make-over in their lithographic series Grande hazaña! Con muertos! The New Carlsberg Foundation has now donated the series to Esbjerg Art Museum, which presents it in a new exhibition that opens on 9 June.

Simple and evocative

Roman Ondak Kunsten

Thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg recently added Event Horizon by the internationally acclaimed Slovakian artist Roman Ondak to its collection. Ondak’s piece is at once strikingly simple and complex in its profoundly sensuous way of giving the past renewed currency in the present.

The Hirschsprung Collection has acquired a beautiful still life by Bertha Wegmann. The painting, which is already on display at the museum is a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Toilet transformation at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft

Steffen Dam Rejsen til M31 2020

When Glasmuseet Ebeltoft (the Glass Museum Ebeltoft) reopens on Wednesday, 27 May, visitors can expect a significantly different experience … at the toilet. Glass artist Steffen Dam has created a site-specific total installation in one of the museum’s public toilets. The piece has been realized thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation and is now going to be a permanent part of the museum.
