Hito Steyerl to Kunsten in Aalborg

Hito Steyerl  SocialSim, 2020

Important video installation by the German contemporary artist and theorist Hito Steyerl has now been added to the permanent collection of Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg. With computer game aesthetics, humour and impactful sensory qualities, SocialSim examines serious topics, such as police violence and social conformity and regimentation. The acquisition was made possible by a grant from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Ferdinand Ahm Krag to Esbjerg Art Museum

Ferdinand Ahm Krag Rogue Planet II, 2020

Ferdinand Ahm Krag’s works call to mind nature’s wondrous structures and processes. Thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Rogue Planet II and The Book for Traversing Eternity have now been included in the collection of Esbjerg Kunstmuseum.

Moss and soft drinks at Tate Modern

Tate Modern has in recent years had a dedicated focus on purchasing Danish art. Most recently, significant works of art by SUPERFLEX and Olafur Eliasson have been added to the gallery’s collection thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Unmanicured field landscape to Øregaard Museum

L. A. Ring. Mark med blomstrende slangehoveder. Frederiksværk, 1901

With expressive brushstrokes, L. A. Ring presents a sweeping view of the landscape in this painting of fields with wild flowers near the Danish town of Frederiksværk. The painting makes an important addition to the collection at Øregaard Museum in an acquisition made possible by support from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Lawrence Weiner at Holstebro Kunstmuseum

Lawrence Weiner. MATTER AS WE KNOW IT

Slime and mud are just two of the words that are currently climbing up the walls of Holstebro Kunstmuseum (Holstebro Art Museum). In an exhibition that includes several textual pieces, the American artist Lawrence Wiener examines the potential materialization of art. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation the museum has now acquired one of the principal pieces from the exhibition for its permanent collection.

Kirkeby to Chicago

Per Kirkeby. Leiser Wellenschlag Grün, 2005

Per Kirkeby’s magnificent painting Leiser Wellenschlag Grün (Softly Lapping Waves Green) from 2005 becomes a part of one of oldest and largest museums in the United States, the Art Institute of Chicago. It is added to the collection thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Klara Lilja. Resurrection, 2021

In Resurrection Klara Lilja draws on the alchemist tradition and the search for eternal life. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Horsens Art Museum has now purchased this graduation piece for its collection.

A royal portrait to Koldinghus

Tilskrevet Gerdt Dittmers. Frederik III, helfigursportræt, u.å.

In Gerdt Dittmers’s full-length portrait of Frederik III, the King is dressed in French fashion from head to toe. The realistic depiction of tiny details offers a convincing and credible representation of the first absolutist king. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Royal Danish Collection has purchased the painting, which is now shown at Koldinghus.
