The New Carlsberg Foundation supports the visual arts, applied arts, architecture and landscape gardening. This includes visual arts in the broadest sense of the term, including those areas where visual art and its modes of expressions connect and interact significantly with other related art forms and contexts.
Below is a list of areas which the New Carlsberg Foundation supports. Click on the headings for more details on who can apply and what kind of initiatives are eligible for funding.
The New Carlsberg Foundation supports art museums’ efforts to add art works to their collections, partly by supporting the acquisition of works of art and partly by transferring works from the Ny Carlsberg Foundation’s own holdings.
Museums, art centres and non-commercial exhibition venues can apply for funding to cover expenses associated with the realisation of exhibitions.
Municipalities, institutions, schools, hospitals etc. can apply for an art project to adorn buildings, urban spaces and/or landscape settings with public access.
The New Carlsberg Foundation supports the publication of, for example, artist monographs and academic art history publications, including exhibition catalogues. All publication support is provided on the condition that the publication will be published within two years from the date of approval of the application.
Grants for PhD/postdoc employment and individual research projects are only provided based on specific announcements from the foundation once a year.
The New Carlsberg Foundation provides support for art scholars’ research trips and participation in conferences abroad, as well as for joint study trips undertaken by students at the Danish art academies. No support is provided for students’ individual travel or participation in exchange programmes abroad.
The New Carlsberg Foundation supports efforts to digitise and provide access to source material that can contribute to insight into and knowledge of Danish art history. The grant accepts applications from institutions and individuals alike. However, in order to be eligible all projects must be hosted by an institution that manages the grant.
The New Carlsberg Foundation also supports other purposes closely associated with the foundation’s charter.
