At the retrospective Ib Braase exhibition After Ib Braase at Galleri Susanne Ottesen in summer 2015, the New Carlsberg Foundation purchased a large number of the exhibits and donated them to several Danish museums. Among them was Horsens Art Museum, which received 29 of the newly acquired sculptures. The sculptures were subsequently presented to the public in the museum’s exhibition Ib Braase from October 2015 until January 2016. The exhibition met with an enthusiastic response from both the museum and the museum visitors, and now, Horsens Art Museum can add another eight Braase sculptures to its collection.
According to Museum Director Claus Hagedorn-Olsen, the sculptures contribute to a more complete collection, which offers a comprehensive view of Braase’s lifelong practice.
‘I find it extremely important that there is one place where the public can see the artist’s work unfold in full, and I’m very pleased that this place is Horsens Art Museum. With the addition of these eight sculptures to the collection, donated by the New Carlsberg Foundation, the museum is able to fulfil this role to an even higher degree. Although we already have 29 sculptures, which cover Ib Braase’s oeuvre retrospectively, I consider the eight sculptures an important supplement, as they make it possible to explore specific artistic issues across a greater number of sculptures,’ says Museum Director Claus Hagedorn-Olsen.
