Tina Maria Nielsen’s installation Salon des Refusés addresses the basement as both physical reality and metaphor. The basement, which can appear dark and menacing, but which also houses all the wondrous things which we collect and store away throughout life. The installation juxtaposes mobile phones, Venetian blinds and umbrellas with spiders, ostrich eggs and a whale vertebra in an intricate network. The objects are reconstructed in materials such as bronze, plaster and silver. The installation, which was previously shown at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, has now continued on to eastern Jutland where it will be on display at Horsens Art Museum, which already has other works by Tina Maria Nielsen in its collection.
