The New Carlsberg Foundation boosts art research with DKK 16 million.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation and others, the Hirschsprung Collection has acquired the outstanding painting Marie Krøyer, painted in 1890 by P.S. Krøyer during the couple’s honeymoon in Italy. The painting is an important element in the story about the subject matter that characterizes Krøyer’s artistic practice.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Esbjerg Art Museum has acquired a five-part ensemble by the sculptor Tina Maria Nielsen. Together, the five elements incorporate a range of ideas and themes that have occupied a principal role in Nielsen’s extensive conceptual practice.

Parti af torvet i Amalfi (View of the square in Amalfi) is a quintessential Danish Golden Age architecture painting. It affirms Rørbye’s position during the period as a great analytical talent and an artist with a bold choice of images. With support form the New Carlsberg Foundation SMK, the national gallery of Denmark, now adds the important Rørbye painting to its Danish Golden Age collection.

When the reconstructed K.B. Hallen opens to the public, it is not only a contemporary architectural interpretation of the legendary multi-purpose venue. A luminous landmark has been added in the form of the light installation Buen (The Arc), created by the artist Viera Collaro.

The French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster draws on film history, gender theory and pop culture in her aesthetic video installation Cinema (QM.15) from 2016. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation ARoS has now acquired the work. It is included in ‘Far From Home’, a presentation of the museum’s own collection that opens on 30 November.

At Christie’s Auctions in New York, the Glyptotek recently acquired Le chêne de roche, painted in 1860 by the French artist Théodore Rousseau. A donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the painting is an important addition to the representation of Rousseau’s work in Glyptotek’s French collection.

The Museum of Art Brundlund Castle has acquired three new paintings by the Danish artist Søren Behncke. The paintings are inspired by material from the museum’s large Franciska Clausen archive and sheds new light on the museum collection.

The collage If Balance Stops and Asks Why, Balance Will Die (2006) is a principal work in Kirstine Roepstorff’s oeuvre. It depicts a female juggler in a tension between balance and imbalance. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Trapholt Museum of Modern Art and Design has now added the piece to its permanent collection.

Rose Eken’s sprawling installation Aftermath, with its aesthetic of decay, consists of a myriad of objects littering the ground after a rock concert. With support from the New Carlsberg foundation, the 1967 ceramic components are now included in the permanent collection of Horsens Art Museum.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation ARKEN has acquired a work by the Australian artist Patricia Piccinini that challenges the boundary between the natural and the cultural.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art has acquired one of William Kentridge’s absolute principal works. Black Box / Chambre Noire represents a significant shift in the artist’s life’s work and is now part of Louisiana’s permanent collection.

The Danish/Norwegian artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset’s exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in London debates the underlying power structures of society and the institutions of art. The New Carlsberg Foundation supports the production of the extensive exhibition catalogue.

With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, among other sources, the Hirschsprung Collection can now add a late work by one of the most pre-eminent artists of Denmark’s Golden Age to its collection.

Portrait of a Boy by the Danish-French impressionist Camille Pissarro is a unique piece in Danish art history. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, among others, Ordrupgaard has been able to purchase this early painting by the artist.
